Hope for the Rainforest.

Hope for our rainforests

About 42 million acres of rainforest land is cleared each year because of logging slash-and-burn agriculture and mining. Rainforests are warm wet
jungles with hundreds of rainforest animal speices such as jaguars, monkies and
tigers. A rainforest is what sientists call "habitats". A habitat is a home where all plants and animals depend on each other to servive. Rainforest can also be called an ecosystem. "An ecosystem is made up of living plants and animals and their non-living environment of air, water, energy and nutrients." (Reid Greg, Ecosystem rainforest) Rainforests are ususally located in every contenent except for Europe, Antartica and the North pole.

Rainforests are being cleared very quickly because of human actions such as Logging, slash-and-burn farming and mining. When humans cut down rainforest animals will face the possabilaty of extinction and some of the the beautiful plants will die. So they also are under threat of extinction. When huge companies cut down trees what are the perspectives of the loggers and those who depend on? What could we do that could fight for the rights of the rainforest?

What are humans doing that is bad to our rainforests.

Logging

Logging is a very bad problem to the rainforest. Logging is when loggers cut down many trees then turn them into things like pencils, paper, toothpicks, furniture, houses, farmes etc.

Slash-and-burn

Humans also practice slash-ansd-burn agriculture. This is when humans cut down all trees and burn everything untill nothing at all is left over! The ash that is still on the ground gives the soil nutrients. Still, this soil only stays up to about 6 to 7 years. Not that long right? I thought so! So since the nutrients got used up so quickly the farmers would have to leave and cut down more and more trees witch make our rainforests face extiction. This is a very sad fact indeed.

Mining

Mining is a major problem to the rainforest because gold, copper, dimonds and other precious gems are very important minerals to people, but they are often found in some of our rainforests around the world. In order to mine, trees and plants are cleared and burned. Then when the ground is completly covered with soil and nothing else but soil then they use a kind of technique called large scale mining. With large scale mining, huge bulldozers and excavaters to take out the metals and minerals from the soil. This is bad for the rainforest because the burn down everything just like in slash-and-burn agriculture.

What has happened to the rainforest now!

Carbon dioxcide

When people cut down rainforest trees down or even burn it down they are putting carbon dioxcide into the air. That here is producing global warming is when the earth gets very hot. When rainforests are cleared, flooding and erosion to the people of the country because when you cut down the trees the trees help the ground stay in place butr when loggers cut it down it becomes unstable. When cars drive on roads, they are running on gas. The gas that comes from cars is now in the air. The trees breath in that air and breathout very good air called oxygen. When trees are cut down mor carbon D. stays in the air which makes our earth very hot! " Oh my goodness why is it so hot?!" Well, now you know.

Animals and plants

Animals and plants are mejestic and they really deserve respect, but not many people have been giving them much respect at all. Some people are selling animals to the zoo and even hunters are killing the animals for skin and meat to eat. So by telling everyone this that means animals and plants will face the possabilaty of exctinction!

What are other peoples opinions on the endangered rainforests.

The perspectives of the conservation groups are that thay are trying their hardest to save the rainforest because first of all that is their job and they chose it and second of all they really care for the world. They also let other people know about the trouble that the rainforest is in. It is said that "WWF (world wildlife fund) has worked in nationol park to save the tropical raiinforests from clearing." Greg Reid ,Ecosystems Rainforests.

The perspectives of the indigenous people perspective is that their villages are being destroyed and they have no place to live exactly they also depend on the rainforest for medicine and food. " Today there are about 1 million indigeonous amazonian people in 500 groups. Some are threatenend because the rainforest where they live are being cleared." Greg Reid Ecosystem Rainforest, ECOFACT Page. 26

The logging companies perspectives are that someone needs to cut down those trees so we could use it for paper, furniture, pencils, toothpicks etc. We could be those animals that are facing the possabilaty of exctintion. "Unbelievably more than about 200,000 trees are cut every day!" www.rain-tree.com/facts.htm

My perspective is that we are destroying too many trees and plants from the rainforest. There is a kind of beautiful plant called the rosy periwinkle plant that grows in the rainforests of Africa. It is a special kind o plant because it is used for all kinds of medicines that could cure certain kinds of deseases like heart deasease, high blood preasure and stomach problems. My very loving grandmother died because of stomach cancer, so if they had time in Bangladesh they could of gave her the periwinkle flower and she would have survived a few more years. The rainforest to me is a special gift. The rainforest gives us oxygen, rubber, medicine, food and even a kind of sap that seems like and acts like fuel. If i were to go anywhere in the world i would go to the rainforest because who wouldn't wan't to see the great animals and plants? One of the worst things i donot like about logging is that logging companies are destroying many habitats of animals and than they face that possabilaty of exctinction. I feel really sorry for the indegeonous people because WE are taking their land and WE are taking their food and WE are also taking thaeir way of life!!! I think i feel very proud of the conservation groups because they are working extremly hard to save our rainforests. So we should appereciate how hard they are working.

What can children do to help our rainforests?

  • Spread the news about what is happening to the rainforest.
  • Talk to the government about it, or if you can't talk write to him or her.
  • Recycle paper so it can be reused
  • Learn more about the rainforest.
  • Encourage peopleto live in a way that does not hurt the environment.
  • Give as many donations to the rainforests.

All of these solutions can work but only if polititions and other people who are leaders decice to suport them.
